The purpose of this paper is to examine the reintegration of a problem-laden historic zone into the surrounding urban fabric, based on parameters of sustainability potentials. Thus, the study aims to determine the sustainability potential of various projects prior to their execution, and hence to develop a model for evaluating how sustainability should figure into such projects. To this end, the Sustainability Matrix has been applied as a methodology for analyzing the project entitled "Application of Space Syntax in Regeneration and Transformation of Galata Area and Hendek Street". The matrix, due to the flexibility in the values assigned to its various indicators, can be adapted to different cites' or regions' needs. This study, in which the Sustainability Matrix was applied to the historic Galata District, proves that the matrix can be used to evaluate urban projects which focus on historic zones.en_US
