Abstract: | This study focused on the preparation of palm kernel oil-based polyurethane film incorporated multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) and their tensile properties, thermal behaviour, water resistance, water vapour transmission rate (WVTR), cell studies and antibacterial properties were investigated. In this study, polyurethane (PU) was synthesized using palm kernel oil-based monoester polyol (PKO-p) and 2,4‘-diphenylmethane diisocyanate (MDI) via pre-polymerization method. PU multi- walled carbon nanotubes (PU-MWNTs) composite films were prepared by solution casting technique. Nanoparticle fluid dispersions containing varying amount of MWNTs (0.01 wt.%, 0.04 wt.% and 0.08 wt.%, respectively denoted as PU- MWNT01, PU-MWNT04 and PU-MWNT08) were added into PKO-p resin and mixed by digital probe sonicator for 20 min followed by mixing with MDI to produce PU-MWNTs composite films. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy revealed the presence of the urethane bond was observed in all the ATR-FTIR spectra of the PU and PU-MWNTs composite films. |
