Abstract:
A study was conducted to observe the effect of salinity and the effect of silicon under
salinity stress on C. elliptica. C. elliptica was cultured on different treatment media
with 25mM NaCl, 50rnM NaCl, 2mM silicic acid, 25mM NaCl and 2mM silicic acid,
and 50mM NaCl and 2mM silicic acid. Analysis on growth, protein content, sugar
content, and total chlorophyll content was done at 5 days interval for 30 days. Only
sodium chloride with different concentration inhibited the growth, soluble protein
content and total chlorophyll content but increasing reducing sugar content. Treatment
with salicic acid alone was increased the growth of plantlet, soluble protein content,
total chlorophyll content but inhibit reducing sugar content. The effects show that
silicon was able to protect plants from multiple abiotic stresses and the beneficial
effect of silicon is more obvious under stress conditions. Treatment with silicic acid
and sodium chloride shows the antagonist effect between silicon and salinity stress on
C. elliptica.
