This project was initiated to provide information on the species composition and size
distribution of fishes landed by recreational anglers of Pantai Teluk Ketapang.
Samplings were carried out from fourth August until 28
th
October 2006. A total of 18
species of fish were recorded. The most abundant species caught was Pomadasys
maculatus followed by Sillago vincenti, Otolithes ruber and Dasyatis zugei. The highest
landed fish, 35.85% was Pomadasys maculatus in October. Otolithes ruber was the
highest species among four species from Family Sciaenidae, with 18.33% recorded in
September and October. The size range for most fish landed for Pomadasys maculatus
was 11.5 cm to 13.5 cm, 16.5 cm to 18.5 cm for Sillago vincenti, 20.5 cm to 22.5 cm for
Otolithes ruber and 25.5 cm to 35.5 cm for Dasyatis zugei. The most preferred bait used
by the angler was Loligo spp. (52%). The catch per unit effort for Loligo spp. was the
highest, 91 fish caught per hour. Anglers frequently went fishing only one to two times
in a month with highest CPUE was in October, 60 fish caught per hour. |
