The effect of spring/neap tides on the catch composition of recreational fishing at Seberang Takir, Kuala Terengganu

Abstract

This thesis describes a study about the catch composition by recreational fishing at Seberang Takir. The objectives of this study were to inventory the fish species that can be caught by recreational fishing during spring or neap tides and to compare the catch composition of recreational fishing between the spring tide and neap tides in Seberang Takir. The method use in the sampling was shoreline fishing by using shrimp bait. The data of the fish such time of caught, species name, common name, weight and length will be used in data analyzing process. Total of 20 species were caught with the number of catches were 113. Spring tide caught 69 numbers of catches while neap tide caught only 44 numbers if catches. The frequently caught species were Arius maculatus, Leiognathus equulus and Caranx ignobilis. Spring tide caught 28 fishes which 54.9% of the total frequently caught species while neap tide caught 23 fishes which 45.1 % of total frequently caught species.
