dc.description.abstract Pandanus tectorius plant, having high an antioxidant activity, has been used as a traditional medicinal herb in the Asian country, especially in China and India. However, several researchers reported that its fruit is rich in semipolar compounds. These might be one of the causes P. tectorius fruits have less solubility and difficult to absorb in our body. Besides that, the weak absorption of the extracts may be caused by large particle sizes and degradation during the absorption process. Hence, nanoparticle modification on P. tectorius fruit extracts was needed to increase its absorption and bioactivity. The P. tectorius fruit extracts encapsulated in chitosan nanoparticles were successfully produced by using the ionic gelation method. Nanoparticles were characterized using particle size analyzer, FTIR, and SEM. Cytotoxicity property of nanoparticles was analyzed by MTT assay against the HepG2 cell line and screened for antihypercholesterolemia potency on HDL receptor en_US
