A study on chiropteran fauna at the garden area of Universiti Malaysia Terengganu
(UMT) was carried out for a total of 30 days from August 2006 to January 2007. The
objectives of the study were to investigate the diversity of bats species and to enrichment
the checklist of bat species found at UMT garden area. The sampling sites were selected
randomly and eight mist nets were used. A total of 91 individuals together with one
recaptured bat from five species were captured. The most frequent capture was Rousettus
amplexicaudatus with 42 individuals followed by Cynopterus bracyotis with 18
individuals. The highest number of capture was in September while the lowest captured
was in December. This study shows that the position of sampling, weather conditions,
fruiting season, vegetations and sampling methods may influence on bats diversity and
abundance at specific area and time. |
