Abstract:
The damaging effect of radiation on materials including the biological systems has
been subject of intense investigation to find out the nature and extent of the damage
that takes place. Most of the living tissues are susceptible to massive damage even
under low dose of radiation. However, little is known of flow characteristics of
gamma rays as only few studies have been carried out. This study is mainly concerned
on the absorption of gamma rays by artificial tissues. An artificial tissue was used in
this study produces by jelly powder with mass 8 g and different volume of water in
ratio 1: 15; 1 :30; 1 :45; 1 :60; 1:75; and 1 :90. In this study, source of gamma rays
produces by Co-60. For preparation of artificial tissues, different volumes of water are
used. Artificial tissues absorption coefficient is determined by using absorption
coefficient equation. Geiger-Muller counter is presented in analyzing the impuls
counting rate of gamma rays. The result for the artificial tissues absorption coefficient
is represent in linear graph with absorption coefficient of each samples are 0.3385,
0.3402, 0.3415, 0.3424, 0.3448, 0.3461. Absorption coefficient for each artificial
tissue can be determined from that graph by using the equation of absorption
coefficient. From research result, absorption coefficient for each material is difference
with others and also depends on quantum particles through the materials.
