Safety level of small fishing boats in Pantai Kundur Melaka

Abstract

This project are the research about the safety level that exist among the small scale fisherman in Pantai Kundur, Melaka who categorized as the coastal fisherman or artisanal. This study will discussing and focusing about the safety awareness among the small scale fisherman and their perception toward the usage of safety equipment that had been proposed by the international organizations in order to overcome the hazards and dangers that usually happen to the fisherman around the world especially to the small scale fishing boat owners and their boat crews. In order to observe the fisherman's safety awareness and their perception toward the usage of safety equipment, the ·comprehensive study about the hazards that might been happen to the fisherman and the safety requirement that had been proposed by various international institutions will be overviewed. The survey and interview session also will be done via questionnaire with the fisherman in order to know about the safety condition that actually exists and the result of this survey and interview session will be analyzed. While the action that need to be taken by the local government agencies in Malaysia to increase the safety level of small scale fishing boats also will be recommended.
