Maritime crime : a study on smuggling of illegal goods at Batu Pahat coastal region

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to identify the trends of smuggling, analyse the statistic and to recommend the ways to reduce the smuggling activities. This study is focused at Batu Pahat coastal region. Batu Pahat waters are one of the famous locations with smuggling activities. The discussion and interview with the personnel from the Pasukan Gerakan Marine (PGM) shows that there are issues occurred relating with smuggling. It is the reasons of why are the smuggling activities is the major maritime crime that happened mostly at Batu Pahat coastal region. Hopefully, with these findings of the research, it can improve the action of all the parties involved in order to prevent or reduce this activities from happened, especially in Batu Pahat coastal region.
